The Variants are a recently-discovered species with a small population. Their bodies are made up of protein, like humans, but are able to use it with much more force. They are stated to be naturally occurring, but what caused them is unknown.

Most of them are implied to have lived normal human lives (employees, firefighters, etc.), although some may have participate in human hunting. There is also a special case of a variant who feeds on other variants in addition to humans.

Some of them were eventually captured and experimented on by the MM Corporation, so they could use their abilities to advance humanity. This led to them having a hostile takeover and developing a hatred towards humanity.

The variants have a different form, this form look like Four in his dying moments, a blob with a singular eye. However, they are way larger and are usually more aggressive with large tentacles.
