Background[]

She was Gyuhwan's childhood best friend that always helped and comforted him when he was in trouble or sad. However, she got devastated that her father wanted her and her mother out of their house, then she left crying and told Gyuhwan to leave her alone, and that was the last time Gyuhwan knew something about her.
They saw each other again in middle school, but she looked at him differently: only as a classmate, and not as her best friend from the childhood. However, one day, she saw how he was bullied by Seongbin while she was talking with her friends (no matter that he thought she became a blind-eye to him), and she decided to tell him to leave Gyuhwan alone; therefore, she was beaten for "disrespecting" him by his girls. Although, he accepted to leave him alone with the condition that she had become an outcast like him until he took the courage to punch him in the face and stand up against him.
Plot[]
Shinyeong is first seen when her class arrived to the Yeongchan Senior retreat grounds, she is warned by Mira that it would be her fault if their drinks were found by the "employees." Later, she is seen in the retreat gym class with Gyuhwan who messed it up on the counting of the excercises. She is seen the next day in archery class impressing Sanggwon for her abilities with the bow and arrow.

01 threatening Shinyeong.
At the talent show, she felt there was something wrong when Mira's group dance was going to start, and her suspicions were right when a fake Mira Han said a speech before the gym massacre. During that event, she interrupted 04 before killing Jayden for being a foreign teacher asking them the reason of their actions and their true identities, but one of the monsters got impressed for her behaviour that showed his true identity and challenged her to kill him with her box cutter; however, because she was scared, he caught her from the neck and was getting ready to kill her; however, he stepped back when 05 chimed in and wanted to kill her instead.
Just then, they got interrupted when Gyuhwan entered with a Shotgun, demanding for Seongbin. One demanded a variant to kill him, but it is killed by Gyuhwan. At the moment 01 and 03 recognized the gun he used, and 05 tried to calm down 03, Shinyeong used that moment to attack 05 and nearly stabbed her; however, 05, realizing her movement, tried to kill her, but Shinyeong avoids her attack too; and then, she told all the students to leave the gym (no matter that some of them died). When One knew that Gyuhwan and his gun were a threat, he demanded the rest to retreat in order to save theirselves, and that intrigued to Shinyeong.
After the massacre and the monsters retreat, Director Lee and the rest of teachers and students got surprised on how Gyuhwan could use a shotgun and where he found it; then, the director asked him about where he found this gun and where he had been before the masacre, but Shinyeong interrupted him because of not being important at that moment and having Jayden's support because of what happened. Seconds later, Hyeyeon Ahn wondered what those things were and if they we, and Shinyeong answer that normal humans don't grow tentacles from their bodies; later, she decided to take off a corpse's shoes, give them to Gyuhwan, and she told him and the rest to go to the teachers' longue in order to stay alive, have a plan to survive and kill those monsters.
...
After she killed 05 with her arrow, she decided to heal Gyuhwan's feet injuries apologising for calling hims a loser and telling him that it was stupid to kill everyone no matter that he wanted to leave everyone dying including her. However, he got upset for her comment and told her it was stupid what she said, so she tried to calm him down telling him about his wounds, but he told all the hate he had towards her and all his classmates, and his desire of leaving everyone dying, but she interrupted him pushing to a wall and telling him as a remind that he couldn't stand up against Seongbin nor the rest of their classmates because none of them is strong enough; therefore, he told that she was strong enough to have helped him, but she told him she was not strong enough, no matter she looked like she was, and that's when she told him for what she passed for in order to help him (that she was forced to accept the cruel agreement that Seongbin offered her in order to leave him alone) and he didn't know until that moment. After she told him what happened to her in order to help him, they began to empathize with each other (encouraging him that he could stand up against him and punch him in the face just with his hands) and rekindled their old friendship.
...
When Gyuhwan went to finish 04 for Hyeyeon Ahn's death (sacrified herself for Gyuhwan), she decided to stop him, but Jongpil proposed her to do it with his and Jayden's help in order to save Gyuhwan with no problems, and she accepted.
Shinyeong later sees Gyuhwan, who was being attacked by 07, she shoots an arrow at the monster whilst screaming Gyuhwan's name, the monster runs away after loosing it's arm and Shinyeong hugs Gyuhwan, telling him that she's glad he's alive. Shinyeong is later seen trying to kill Zero, due to a recording telling them to kill Zero on sight. But, Zero wakes up, and as she tries to attack him, she's flung into a tree and was unable to move. Gyuhwan ran to her aid immediately.

As childhood friends, they went on many adventures and such together. Shinyeong was always helping him and comforting the cowardly boy. Gyuhwan, in return, was very happy to be her friend and viewed her in a very positive manner. It is even implied he also had a crush on her and still does. Unfortunately, when her parent split up, they stopped seeing eachother and Shinyeong moved. They met again back in middle school but they drifted apart; despite this, she still cares about him enough to try and stand up against Seongbin Yu to leave him alone; however, because of Seongbin cruel agreement, she has been forced to turn to his bullying, which made Gyuhwan feel betrayed.

When the monsters attacked, she asked for his help to escape. Also, she told him that it was stupid to kill everyone no matter that he wanted to leave everyone dying including her. However, she told him that he couldn't stand up against Seongbin nor the rest of their classmates because none of them is strong enough; therefore, he told that she was strong enough to have helped him, but he didn't know what she passed for in order to help him (that she was forced to accept the cruel agreement that Seongbin offered her in order to leave him alone).
After she told him what happened to her in order to help him, they began to empathize with each other and rekindled their old friendship. The two ally themselves against the Variants. After the variant attack, Seongbin threatens to kill Shinyeong or anyone who joins up with her.
