Jongpil has short dark, spiky hair. He typically wears the Yeongchan boys uniform, but starts wearing a green vest afterwards.

Jongpil always putting himself in dangerous situations
Jongpil is a somewhat cowardly student but still shows a sense responsibility. He is friendly towards people of all ages and backgrounds and is almost always willing to do what's right, even if he's extremely scared. Like other students, though, he knew about Gyuhwan's bullying, but felt he couldn't help. Nevertheless, he is still shown to be a caring and kind student.
After the gym massacre, he is shown to be a comparatively calm and strategic, thinking about possible solutions for survival after the variants attacked the students. He also becomes more brave, as he is now willing to stand up to Seongbin or fight against monsters.

He also has a geeky side to him, which he doesn't try to hide. He is very prideful about his recorder, using it in more ways then just music. He is also shown to be a huge fantasy geek as he is an avid watcher of Maria from the Sky, even mimicking their soundtracks with his recorder. Furthermore, he demands Zero to "cast heal" when his legs get broken and gets excited over his powers.
Plot[]
Jongpil gets booed off the talent show
During the talent show, Jongpil plays the flute, but is discoved to have left a recording playing. He is boo'ed off of the stage. When 05 and the other variants started attacking the students, Jongpil remained in the gym with a few other students and teachers. He comforted a classmate when she vomited upon seeing the bodies of dead students. He followed the survivors to the staff room, where they remained locked up.
Unfortunately, Five finds their hiding spot and begins to attack, killing two unnamed students. Once Gyuhwan saved them, Jongpil managed to escape and later caught up with Jayden, confirming with him the previously made marks. He proposed him that they could light a beacon on the rooftop to get someone's attention to rescue them, and they decided to do it and leave before to get killed by the Variants. By the gym, they found the corpses of Jinhui Noh, Sujin Park and then Hayeong Lee. They eventually run into Gyuhwan's group, who is being attacked by 04. Jongpil plays the flute to distract it, so Jayden can cut off Four's hand, making it drop the shotgun it took. When 04 blows a smokescreen to blind them because of the wound he had for Shinyeong's arrow, Jongpil is outside its radius and shout for his allies to come to his location. Unfortunately, this alerts 04 who comes charging at him, but he is saved by Gyuhwan shooting at 04.
Sometimes during their fight, Gyuhwan chases after the monster. Shinyeong, Jongpil and Jayden decide to go after him. While looking for him, they run into Chanhyeok Park and hold him hostage, which alerts his nearby group of Seongbin, Sanggwon and "Hayeong". Shinyeong does a monster check on Chanhyeok, causing Seongbin to snap out at her. Jongpil eventually reprimands Seongbin for disrespecting Jayden, so Seongbin threatens to kill him. Jongpil says he's not afraid of him anymore and threatens to beat him with the recorder. Seongbin then to kill his friend threatens if they join up with her. Jayden asks Jongpil what's wrong with him and Jongpil says he's always been like that. Jayden wishes to cooperate with them, but Jongpil realizes that would be no help, so they split up. Meanwhile, Jongpil wonders why this "Hayeong" girl looks so familiar.

Later, Jayden and his group find Gyuhwan who is near a trapped Zero. Jongpil gets excited when Gyuhwan explains Zero's powers, so Shinyeong glares at him. They want to kill him, but Gyuhwan interjects. Eventually, Shinyeong tries to kill the child, so he attacks her. It then attacks Jayden, so Jongpil proceeds to charge at Zero, but is stopped by having his legs broken. Afterwards having a change of heart zero heals his legs.
Intelligence: Jongpil is shown to be strategic when thinking of counters to the Variants. He comes up with idea of creating a beacon on the rooftop to make signals for help. He also has the idea of distracting a monster with his recorder.
Recorder Skills: Jongpil is skilled in playing the recorder, though not everybody is a huge fan of his music.
Jongpil and Jayden get along well. They seem to have more of a casual friendship than a student-teacher one. Sometime after the attack, the two decide to head to the rooftop together to light a beacon. They also work together to bring down the Variant, 04. Jongpil also defends Jayden when he is being insulted by Seongbin.
Gyuhwan and Jongpil were in different classes so the two never interacted. Jongpil was aware Gyuhwan was being bullied, like everybody else and didn't help but felt guilty about it. He is one of the few who doesn't beg Gyuhwan to save him from 05's attack when he doesn't want to save them. After the variant attack, they work in a group to stop 04. Once they run into each other again, they start traveling together. They seem to be genuinely friends after their fight against 04, as Jongpil shows relief to see him alive again and in return Gyuhwan begs Zero to heal him after he breaks his legs. The two eventually become closer when Gyuhwan recognizes one of his flute songs, which comes from Maria.
Jongpil is shown to be very supportive and caring of Shinyeong. He supports her dangerous mission to save Gyuhwan. They seemingly become close friends after allying. Shinyeong thinks of Jongpil as somewhat airheaded and annoying, as shown when she gets mad at him for wanting to play the flute or getting excited over Zero's powers. Nevertheless, they seem to be good friends.
Before the incident, Jongpil was very afraid of Seongbin, like most students. After his fight with 04, however, he is no longer scared of him, since he views Seongbin as "nothing" compared to those monsters. Seongbin in turn, likely wants to kill him for teaming up with Shinyeong.
Jongpil first gets excited about Zero's powers when he first sees him. Despite their first interaction being Zero brutally mauling his legs, Jongpil is able to see past this and befriend Zero. The two bond when Zero becomes interested in Jongpil's recorder.
Trivia[]
In a scene deleted by Webtoon, Jongpil is seen in Gyuhwan's dream, begging him not to shoot him.
In Chapter 49, it is revealed that Gyuhwan and Jongpil are in different classes. However, this contradicts the fact that they were seen together in the prologue (before being deleted), Chapters 1, 13 and 17. This could've been another student who looked like Jongpil, however, such as Hyeonseok Kang.
