Appearance[]
Jay's human appearance is that of a young man with bluish hair.
The Face Monster's appearance is that of a tall human with a disproportionately large torso. The torso has a large face on it that mimics the expression of the head. Upon turning hostile, the face on its torso will change to an enraged expression.
Personality[]
Jay Ryu was a kind, yet vain person. He frequently looked at himself in a mirror and talked about his dreams of being a star. His vanity initially allowed him to resist the effects of monsterfication, as seeing himself turning into one in a mirror snapped him back to his senses. Jay Ryu, however, is pretty cowardly. Despite being armed, he still ran and hid from a monsterfied Mr. Kim.
The Face Monster's desire is based on Jay's vanity taken to an extreme. It constantly seeks attention and in particular, compliments of its appearance. Whenever it runs into a human, it will ask if the human thinks it looks good. If it is praised, it leaves the human alone and walks away, but due to its vanity will ask the human again a few seconds later. If it receives a negative answer, it turns hostile and attempts to kill the human.
Plot[]
Jay Ryu is part of the crowd in the lobby of Green Roof Apartments wondering what is going on. When the Tongue Monster attacks, he flees in terror.
He later is involved in the vote on Hyun Cha's fate. When Mr. Kim attacks the survivors in the lobby, Jay runs away and barricades himself in a room, despite being armed himself. Hyein Son demands he go out and fight, but the ensuing argument leads to Hyein bludgeoning Ryu with a dumbbell, presumably killing him. However, unbeknownst to even Jay, he had begun monsterfying and survived the blow, although left unconscious. He wakes up insane, having started to give into his inner monster. He attempts to attack Hyein and Seon Ahn, but sees what he has become in a mirror and comes back to his senses.
He is locked up in a closet with Seon for the survivor's safety. Seon and Jay discuss monsterfication in this closet. Eventually, Jay gives into his inner monster and fully turns in to the Face Monster.
The Face Monster breaks through the ceiling onto the second floor. It runs into Hyun Cha, who recognizes the monster used to be Jay. Its repeated attempts at getting Hyun to validate it leads to Hyun giving a negative answer. This infuriates the monster and the two fight. The Face Monster is stunned in the end and Hyun reluctantly incinerates it, worried about Jay Ryu.
Abilities[]
The Face Monster possess the standard super strength and healing of other monsters. It is very dexterous and is able to climb and crawl on the ceiling. Despite this, it is only hostile in certain conditions. It is easy to trick due to its vanity. When it's angry, however, it triggers an effect on the offending human, afflicting a debilitating headache. The headache can be overcome with willpower. It is unknown how the Face Monster is able to cause this.
