Hoyeon Baek (백호연, Baek Ho-yeon) was one of Joon Shin's gang members.
Appearance[]
Hoyeon Baek is a young man. He is above average height with a thin and lanky build. He typically wears a grey jacket over a white shirt with slacks. He has long black hair tied into a ponytail.
Personality[]
As noted by Wook Pyeon, Hoyeon Baek is a prideful individual. He frequently carries a gun and uses it to intimidate other people. Additionally, he can't help but take on challenges to his pride, even if it means risking failure of an assignment. Despite being involved in criminal activity, he does seem to have some moral code, as he is regretful that his boss had to use a woman as a hostage.
Plot[]
Hoyeon Baek arrives with the rest of the criminal gang to "save" the survivors. After destroying the Steroid Monster, the gang quickly takes over. Hoyeon goes to the quarantine room in an attempt to show the survivors who is in charge, but is worried when they see one of the infected had already turned and escaped. Joon Shin physically reprimands him for his hesitancy and personally executes the other infected person.
Hoyeon is then assigned to watch over the prisoners: Hyuk Lee and Wook Pyeon. At first, he finds Hyuk's theories absurd and amusing, but is then unnerved when Hyuk begins deducing Joon Shin's plans and secrets their other members have. Hyunshik Lim advises Hoyeon to stand down, however, as it would not be a good idea to kill the hostages for no reason. Later, as the hostages are locked up in a closet, Hoyeon and Wook converse about how Hoyeon got involved in all of this. Wook takes advantage of Hoyeon's pride, challenging him to a fistfight, which Hoyeon agrees to. Wook is then released from his restraints, and unfortunately for Hoyeon, easily overpowers the criminal and knocks him out.
Hoyeon is forced to look for them, but is unable to find them before Joon Shin finds out. The gang then is alarmed when they see a horde of monsters beginning to break the barricade. Joon Shin breaks Sangsu's neck, killing him, an act that Hyun Cha and Jisu Yoon witness. Hoyeon is ordered to dismember the body in order to use it as bait. Hoyeon questions his boss's methods when he takes Jisu hostage, but then is put on the defensive when Hyuk knocks over Joon and holds him at gunpoint. As Hyun talks Hyuk down, Hoyeon is outraged that people seem to be forgetting the situation they are in. However, the Horned monster manages to pierce its horn through the barricade and impale Hoyeon through the stomach, killing him.
