Appearance[]
Gyuhwan has short and unkept dark brown hair. He also has pallid skin as well as very thick eyebrows. He is often seen with bandages and in his school uniform. Later, he starts wearing a hiking backpack.
Personality[]
At the start of the series, Gyuhwan Han is the school outcast. He's shown to be an insecure person suffering from severe self-confidence issues, such as despite being tormented and bullied on a daily basis by Seongbin, he never fought off or spoken up against any of it, instead tries to put up with it. Because of his severe bullying he is a bit mentally unstable, occasionally imagining killing his classmates. He harbours resentment to them for never helping him when he was bullied, however he is hesitant to act upon it. He can be a bit hypocritical such as believing his classmates should have stood up against Seongbin, despite the fact that he could probably not do the same thing.
At the start of the Variant attack, Gyuhwan is only concerned about getting out alone. He does not feel the need to help his classmates are being killed off since they wouldn't help him when he was bullied.
As time goes on, Gyuhwan slowly becomes more open to working with others. He is able to get along and ally himself with people whom he previously hated. His kind side starts to show when he bonds with Zero, despite hearing all the warnings about him. Even after seeing Zero brutally attack his friends, he still wants to help him. During his mental conversation with Zero reveals that Gyuhwan is much more insightful, and even idealistic, about life than you would expect someone his age and in his situation to be. He even says to Zero that trapping people in a world of desires would be giving them fake happiness.
Fighting monsters and over coming near death situations has made him a lot more confident in himself gaining enough courage to stand up and punch Seongbin's face at the end.
Background[]

Gyuhwan and Shinyeong as children
He and Shinyeong were best friends in their childhood, until Shinyeong's family had an argument; because of that, she ran away and told him to leave him alone, being one of the last times Gyuhwan sees her. But, he asked to the new livers of her house what happened to her.
One day in middle school, his father would get sick and end up in the hospital. At one point his father's sickness got so bad that he had to drive his father there to the hospital despite being underage.
Gyuhwan met Shinyeong again in Middle School, but with other eyes from one to another. On the other hand, in high school, he started to get bullied by Seongbin Yu; and one day, when he asked Shinyeong to help him, he saw that she didn't take too much attention to his problem, considering her a traitor (but later is seen that she tried to help him after getting bullied and she paid the price for helping him).
One day, Gyuhwan had met up with his friend Crewcrew from online and would hang with him at the arcade where they played shooting games, and this taught Gyuhwan how to use a gun. One day, he met with Hyuk again, where they ran into one of his teachers, Jayhun Jung. Gyuhwan asked if he could sleep over at Crew's but changed his mind after learning his sister was there.
In addition, because of being bullied at the school, he had a dream of shooting all of his classmates, including his teacher, for not helping him on his bullying, and Seongbin Yu for having bullied him. In fact, he had this dream before the retreat.
Plot[]
At the beginning, Gyuhwan has a dream of killing all of his classmates including Seongbin and his teacher because of not helping him on his bullying caused by Seongbin. Of course, he only wonders if it is easy to do it in real life. He is then seen on the bus to the Yeongchan Senior retreat with his class. Seongbin tells him that they'll be roommates with Chanhyeok. Once they arrive at the campground, they are forced to put their phones away, so Gyuhwan texts CrewCrew (Hyuk) before this. The "camp instructor" forces them to do jumping jacks. Unfortunately, Gyuhwan screws up and forces them to restart, which deeply angers his classmates. Later that night, Chanhyeok and Seongbin force Gyuhwan to kill mosquitos for them.

Seongbin bullies Gyuhwan
The next day, Seongbin and Chanhyeok try to force Gyuhwan to steal liquor for them. Gyuhwan says he doesn't want to because if he gets in trouble, it will put more stress on his his sick father. Seongbin doesn't care and threatens Gyuhwan, finally forcing Gyuhwan to submit. However, Seongbin slaps him and calls him a disappointment of a son for selling out his father. Gyuhwan finally calls him out as a piece of trash in a rude way, which deeply angers Seongbin. Gyuhwan immediately jumps out the window and runs, with Seongbin chasing him. He loses him, but they both end up getting lost in the woods.
"Shotgun Boy" finds Shotgun
While running, Gyuhwan sees a faint light and tries to follow it, but stumbles off a cliff. However, he realizes that he survived (wihout knowing it was Zero who healed him offscreen until he informs him later), and landed next to a crashed Beaver Movers truck. Inside, he finds a shotgun just next to it. He hallucinates Seongbin approaching him to take his gun, but in a fit of rage, fires a bullet at his imaginary bully. The bullet ends up ending a tree tree, and he notices the green liquid that comes out from the pellets.

Gyuhwan faces a Variant
Gyuhwan heads back to the gym, assuming that Seongbin was there due to the talent show. He starts shouting his name; however, inside he finds a group of monsters killing off all his classmates. 01 quickly orders one of the variants to attack him, so it obliges. It reminds Gyuhwan of his "inferiority" as a human and tries to kill him, but Gyuhwan shoots it, causing it to die. This distracts the variants, giving the students an opportunity to run. 07 then kills multiple students and charges after Gyuhwan, but Gyuhwan shoots it's arm off. Before the venom can kill it, 04 saves it by cutting its arm off. 04 grabs his classmate, Seonyeob, to use as a human shield. However, when 04 realizes Gyuhwan is willing to shoot through the hostage, it quickly tries to throw the boy at him, but Jayden helps him catching his classmate; and then, he almost kills 04 just missing some few inches from his head and shooting to his cap. The variants decide this is a good time to retreat and create a smokescreen to escape through the roof.

Gyuhwan and Shinyeong reunite
After the variants left the gym, the Director Lee questioned Gyuhwan's whereabouts and how he got the shotgun. This is interrupted when everybody tries to call someone but nobody can get a signal. Shinyeong asked Gyuhwan to help him find and kill the monsters responsible for the gym massacre, and he accepted it, receiving a pair of one of the victims' shoes. Director Lee then tried to take Gyuhwan's shotgun, so Gyuhwan threatened to shoot him. The director didn't take him seriously, but then Seonyeob informed him that Gyuhwan would actually be willing to kill him.
After leaving the gym in order to go to the teachers' lounge and telling what happened on the gym to Ms. Kim, he, trying to make contact with anyone from their cell phones having neither signal nor Internet as his classmates and his teachers, tried to have contact with Crew, having no signal and saying to himself that he would not "be able to make it in one piece". The group comes to the decision that someone must get the PE Teacher's car keys so the group can escape and ask for anyone's help. Shinyeong asks Gyuhwan to go with her, which he agrees to do it. After the group discusses the ways to counter the variants, Shinyeong and Gyuhwan along with Jayden decide to head out.

Gyuhwan's group heads out.
While in the hallway, Gyuhwan starts daydreaming starting with Shinyeong that informs Gyuhwan she's surprised he was willing to cooperate with her like this; then, Gyuhwan rebuts and tells Shinyeong she's right, and he doesn't care about her life and aims a gun at her. However, he is woken up by Shinyeong when she shouts his name and tells him to check out the hall. He recalls that nobody tried to help him when he was being bullied, even Shinyeong, while checking if there is somebody at the hall, and Jayden snaps him out of his daze. Once they make it outside, Gyuhwan tells Shinyeong how he found the shotgun, and he recalls that inside he found not only the ammo but something inside the truck close to the shotgun. Then, before he can explain what he found there, Jayden calls him in order to cover him while going to the auditorium, assuring the "monsters" are not there and letting Shinyeong go for the PE Teacher's car keys.
After getting the keys, the three run to his car getting inside it and ready to go to the outside for help; once they're in the car, Jayden turns on the headlights and noticing Mira appearing in front of her at that moment (in order to get the phones and destroy them); she tries to kill them with one of her tentacles breaking the windshields, but Jayden accelerates the car, pulling her along. However, that couldn't knock her out enough, so she decides to kill him, but Gyuhwan, who tells Shinyeong to open the door, shoots her on the leg, barely missing, and gives Jayden the small chance to drive as fast as possible to get out of the retreat grounds; nevertheless, 05 manages to cut her leg and destroy one of the wheels, causing the car to lose control and leaving the three unconscious.
At that moment, he recalls the day when Crew (Hyuk) asked him if he ....
...
After Shinyeong kills 05 with her arrow, she decides to heal Gyuhwan's feet injuries apologising for calling him a loser and telling him that it is stupid to kill everyone no matter that he wants to leave everyone dying including her. However, he gets upset for her comment and tells her it is stupid what she said, so she tries to calm him down telling him about his wounds, but he tells all the hate he's had towards her and all his classmates, and his desire of leaving everyone dying, but she interrupts him pushing to a wall and telling him as a remind that neither he could stand up against Seongbin nor the rest of their classmates because none of them is strong enough; therefore, he says that she was strong enough to have helped him, but she tells him she is not strong enough, no matter she looks like she is, and that's when she tells him for what she had to pass for in order to help him (that she was forced to accept the cruel agreement that Seongbin offered her in order to leave him alone) and he didn't know until that moment. After she tells him what happened to her in order to help him, they begin to empathize with each other (encouraging him that he can stand up against him and punch him in the face just with his hands) and rekindled their old friendship.

04 piercing Gyuhwan's chest.
After Gyuhwan finished 04 by shooting at his chest, he saw Zero, thinking that he cannot be the "Agent of God" that Sangjin Kim because of his wound; then, he tried to save him taking his body with him, but he got stabbed by 04's head saying his last words before melting completely, and he finally fell to a cliff with Zero taking severe damage because of the wound and the fall.

Gyuhwan with Zero.
In a dreamlike state, Gyuhwan is falling only to be saved by Zero. He wakes up and becomes a bit frantic since the hole in his chest is healed and he aims his gun at Zero and asked if he was the one that saved him, to which Zero nodded. Gyuhwan lowers the gun and sits down next to Zero. he asked Zero why he saved him, Zero responds that because he helped him he confirms that Zero is different from the other monsters, he then asked if he killed the owner of the jacket Zero shook his head relieved but contemplating why Zero is considered a threat by MM. Gyuhwan realize that he could use Zero's ability to help Ms. Ahn but zero says that he can't cuz that person is already dead, Gyuhwan is still confused of why Ms. Ahn sacrificed herself to save him. He notices that Zero is trembling because of the cold and offers him a blanket, then wonders how he got into this mess and contemplates the outside world. He then wraps up Zero's feet while he sleeps, seeing him peacefully sleeping he's wondering how Zero is considered a threat. Gyuhwan then gets a signal from his phone and he immediately calls the police, who don't take his call about the monster attack seriously, but nevertheless they send two cops to investigate later. He then tells Crew what happened and eventually convinces him to investigate the matter. Their call is cut short when Zero wakes up, causing the signal to die. Gyuhwan tries to ask Zero to go back to sleep, than asks to do something about the way he speaks, Zero then initiates telepathy using his psychometry, and reveals his true voice much to his surprise. Zero notes that he has a wounded soul and ask if all humans are like him, he tries to respond but caught short when Zero says that he pities the people in MM and Seongbin. Gyuhwan becomes upset that the fact that Zero pities someone like him, Zero then explains his reason of being and has the ability to supposedly save everyone he tries to ask what he means but is caught off when Zero says that it involves annihilating them and ask him if he wants him to do it with a smile on his face. Gyuhwan had always had that thought in the back of his mind to kill everyone but, when hearing it from a child it disturbed him greatly. He tries to reprimand Zero but is interrupted when 07 appears.
07 asks how he survived 04's stab attack. It then threatens to bury him and Zero alive and tries to collapse the cave, so Gyuhwan tries to shoot the monster, but it deflects with a rock and throws it at him. Luckily, Zero saves him and then telekentically sends 07 away. With the cave collapsing, Gyuhwan rushes out, holding Zero's hand, but trips and lets go of Zero who gets trapped under rocks. 07 then claps, mocking Gyuhwan that Zero could've saved himself. It then asks Gyuhwan to move out of the way so it can "speak" to Zero. Gyuhwan objects and aims at 07, so it starts speeding in circles around Gyuhwan. Once it nears him, it knocks the shotgun out of Gyuhwan's hold and readies to kill Gyuhwan by eating his brain. Just then, Shinyeong interjects and shoots 07's arm, causing it to flee. Shinyeong, Jongpil and Jayden are glad to see Gyuhwan, then notice Zero. Shinyeong then tries to kill Zero so Gyuhwan warns her not too since he saved him life with his healing powers. Gyuhwan furthers that he would be useful on their side, but Shinyeong rejects and says they need to kill him anyway.
Just then, Zero wakes up and prepares to attack the group. Gyuhwan tries to defend Shinyeong and asks Zero not to hurt her, but it attacks her when she threatens to shoot him. He then proceeds to attack Jayden (ripping his arms), then Jongpil (breaking his legs). Gyuhwan rushes to Shinyeong's aid, but is approached by Zero. He begs Zero not to hurt her then tells him he doesn't want to kill him. He asks the child to help him, so he won't forget him.

Shinyeong Kang[]

Gyuhwan and Shinyeong as children
Gyuhwan and Shinyeong were childhood friends, and he had a great admiration to her for being strong and brave, but he was also afraid because she shined so brightly that she could vanish and leave him which eventually became a reality when she moved away because of her family fight. They are reunited again in Middle School, and he was very happy to see her; however, they drifted apart because of the changes she went through and came to accept that. He later considers her a traitor for turning a blind eye to his bullying; however, he was unaware of the cruel agreement she was forced into by Seongbin, and he later finds out about this from Shinyeong herself and begins to empathize with her and rekindle their old friendship. He used to have a crush on her when they were kids and judging from his reaction to Shinyeong hugging him and worried about him, he still has feelings for her.
Seongbin Yu[]
Gyuhwan imagining his bullies
Gyuhwan is very afraid of Seongbin as he is frequently tormented and bullied by him. He also harbours resentment and hatred towards him to the extent that he dreams of shooting him to death with a shotgun. After finding out that he forced Shinyeong into a cruel agreement resulting in her becoming an outcast, his resentment towards him grew. Later in the story, He relents on killing Seongbin too, limiting his revenge to giving him a punch in the face which later he does.
Chanhyeok Park[]
Just like two of his friends, Chanhyeok bullies and torments Gyuhwan on a daily basis. He doesn't think highly of him and calls him a loser and even threatens him. He became surprised that Gyuhwan was able to kill one of the monsters with ease. Despite this, he continues to mock him. However, he became weary of Gyuhwan because of the possibility that he might turn his gun at him.
It is implied that Chanhyeok as well as Sanggwon are teaming up with Samshik in order to take him down.
Sanggwon Ahn[]
Sanggwon has no problem assisting Seongbin in his bullying. He does seem aware that Gyuhwan might want to kill him for contributing to his bullying.
Jongpil Shin[]
Gyuhwan and Jongpil were in different classes so the two never interacted. Jongpil was aware Gyuhwan was being bullied, like everybody else and didn't help but felt guilty about it. He is one of the few who doesn't beg Gyuhwan to save him from 05's attack when he doesn't want to save them. After the variant attack, they work in a group to stop 04. Once they run into each other again, they start traveling together. They seem to be genuinely friends after their fight against 04, as Jongpil shows relief to see him alive again and in return Gyuhwan begs Zero to heal him after he breaks his legs. The two eventually become closer when Gyuhwan recognizes one of his flute songs, which comes from Maria.
Jayden[]
Jayden is one of the few people at his school who seems to care about Gyuhwan. After the Variant attack, he is willing to aide Gyuhwan in his mission to search for help. Gyuhwan is shown to have concern for Jayden when he is hurt by 04.
Hyeyeon Ahn[]
Gyuhwan and Ms. Ahn barely knew each other, as he didn't have classes with her, but she was always friendly when meeting him in the hallways. She worries about his safety and was happy to see him again after 05's attack, accompanying him to the truck. During the confrontation with 04, Hyeyeon sacrifices himself by pushing Gyuhwan out of the way of 04's punch. His attitude and his death fills Gyuhwan with fury, prompting him to run after 04 to kill him for what he did.
Suyeon Kim[]
She is Gyuhwan's homeroom teacher like with his classmates he hate's her for turning a blind eye to his bullying and dreams of shooting her along with his classmates. Despite initially wanting to kill her, he eventually teams up with her to take down the Variants
Others[]
Hyuk Lee[]
He has shown to be in good terms with Hyuk as an online and real life friend. Gyuhwan refers to him by his online persona "CrewCrew", when addressing him, instead of his real name. Prior to Sweet Home, the two hung out together outside in real life and texted each other like pals. Hyuk would frequently ask Gyuhwan to read Maria from the Sky.
Once Gyuhwan gets his signal back, one of his first instincts is to contact Hyuk, asking for help with the monster situation. Although Hyuk doesn't believe him at first, he eventually calls the cops and tries to help him.
Zero[]

Helping Zero
Zero presumably heals Gyuhwan after falling off a small cliff. He later heals him again from 04's attack. Despite Gyuhwan hearing from the MM Corporation that Zero is a threat, he sets aside these prejudices and is willing to befriend and protect Zero. Zero, in turn, is willing to protect him since Gyuhwan did the same for him.
Eun Lee[]
Gyuhwan thinks she hates him for being a loser. He prefers to avoid her. It is possible that she was in love with Gyuhwan Han
Variants[]
The Variants were targeting him, due to him having the Shotgun, making him their only threat.
Hyun Cha[]
Not much is known about their relationship. However, when they first met, Gyuhwan tried to attack him, and Hyun tried to attack Gyuhwan.
