Chanhyeok Park was the student #21 from Class 1 at Yeongchan High. He was one of Gyuhwan's bullies under Seongbin Yu. After the gym massacre, he formed a group with Seongbin, Sanggwon Ahn and Hayeong Lee.[Note 1] After making the group and discovering that Hayeong is a monster, he was used as a bait by her in order to save herself and the rest of the group.
Appearance[]
Chanhyeok had short black hair. He was usually seen wearing the boys school uniform but wore a yellow shirt underneath it. He rarely opens his eyes.
Personality[]
Chanhyeok was arrogant, brash, hotheaded, cold and sadistic and had no problem bullying Gyuhwan. He hangs out with Seongbin likely only due to his status and follows him with little question even though he dislikes him like everybody else.
Chanhyeok's true colors start to show after the monster attack. He is very cowardly, trying to push others into situations he's too scared to face. He is also regarded as stupid and useless for being a loudmouth, which has gotten the group in near trouble a few times. He is also an ungrateful man, as shown despite the fact that Gyuhwan Han saved his life when the monsters attacked the talent show, he continues to insult and mock him. Chanhyeok was not above begging for his life when faced with a threat. He was also willing to throw his closest friend, Sanggwon, under the bus, so he could live.
Plot[]
Doing archery with Sanggwon
Chanhyeok is first seen on the bus to the retreat with Sanggwon and Seongbin. When they arrive at the campus, Chanhyeok and everyone else put their phones in a bag. During inspection, Chanhyeok and Sanggwon insult the instructor.
Chanhyeok is later seen doing archery practice with Sanggwon, who is wondering where Seongbin is. They notice Shinyeong Kang practicing nearby and Sanggwon comments that he has a crush on her. Chanhyeok informs him he'll become an outcast for talking to another outcast. Sanggwon then gets frustrated.
Later that day, Chanhyeok is with his roommates, Gyuhwan and Seongbin. The latter gets bored, so him and Chanhyeok decide to force Gyuhwan to get alcohol for them. Chanhyeok insults Gyuhwan for not wanting to do. Gyuhwan says doing it will upset his father, so Chanhyeok threatens him. Once Seongbin threatens him too, he finally submits. But then Seongbin beats Gyuhwan for "being a terrible son" while Chanhyeok insultingly agrees. Just as they are about to leave, Gyuhwan snaps and calls Seongbin a peice of sh*t. Chanhyeok heads to the talent show, while Seongbin chases Gyuhwan out in the woods.
Witnessing the gym massacre
He is seen at the talent show alongside Sanggwon, wondering where Seongbin is. Chanhyeok doesn't know and says it's all Goo-wad's fault. He is shown to be shocked when the lights go out and the variants begin to attack people. During this attack, Chanhyeok screams at Sanggwon to do something. Once Gyuhwan arrived with a shotgun, he managed to escape with Sanggwon.
Chanhyeok and Sanggwon eventually found a cave and tried to set a fire. As the two were discussing recent events, such as Gyuhwan trying to hunt them all down, Seongbin and Hayeong overheard their conversation. They inform each other on recent events. Outside, "Hayeong" notices a mysterious light. Seongbin since Chanhyeok to investigate it, which he regretfully accepts. Chanhyeok finds a mysterious child and calls out to the group. They are forced to watch Seongbin kill the child after it angers him. Chanhyeok terrifyingly asks why Seongbin killed a human child. In order to silence Chanhyeok and the others, Seongbin "coercions" them it was a monster.
Chanhyeok and Sanggwon confronted by Samshik
Later, Chanhyeok is told by Sanggwon that he shouldn't trust Seongbin, since he might kill them next. They then run into Chayeong Park, who claims to be running from a monster. He watches as a blood-lusted Seongbin attempts to murder the girl. The group follows Seongbin, who chases after her. Not long after, Seongbin passes out from a nosebleed. Hayeong then informs Chanhyeok and Seongbin that Seongbin has awakened a tumor, which alarms them. She then reveals to them that she has been a variant named Samshik the entire time. Samshik asks that they keep this a secret, to which they scaredly agree. Samshik then says one of them must die. Chanhyeok begs for the creature not to kill him, since he wants to live. She informs them it was just a joke, and she'll let them live since they have a common enemy.
Chanhyeok gets test by Shinyeong
Once Seongbin finally wakes up, Samshik suggests that the group starts moving. While walking, the group hears something, so Seongbin sends Chanhyeok to check again. He is then held at arrowpoint by Shinyeong, who asks if he's a variant, which he denies. He is then used as a hostage against Seongbin's group. For good measures, Shinyeong pokes him with a venomized arrow. Chanhyeok is obviously angered by this, but he doesn't react since he is human. After a debate between Shinyeong's group and his, Sanggwon approaches Shinyeong to tell her Samshik is a monster. Sanggwon ends up not doing it, with the pressure of causing unneccessary drama and Chanhyeok signaling him to be quiet. Sanggwon then awkwardly laughs it off along with Chanhyeok. Jayden requests that they cooperate, but Seongbin rebuts and asks Sanggwon and Chanhyeok to come back down. The two regroup with their friends and head out.

While travelling, the group notices notices a group of soldiers leading two students. Seongbin feels something is off when the soldiers suddenly shoot the students, leading Chanhyeok to scream. One of the soldiers hears this and started nearing the group, so Samshik suddenly pushes Chanhyeok, using him as bait so the others can get away. Chanhyeok tries to make excuses to save himself. They scan him and say he's clean, which Chanhyeok thinks is a good thing, until the soldier gives him a cold glare. Chanhyeok tearfully begs for his life but gets shot in the head offscreen.
Relationships[]
Seongbin Yu[]
Chanhyeok and Seongbin were supposed friends. He tould help him with bullying other students, mainly Gyuhwan. He later starts fearing Seongbin because of the cruel and merciless actions he's taken. Seongbin in turn viewed him as useless and loudmouthed and would often use him as a scapegoat or sacrifice, even smiling when he could possibly die.
Sanggwon Ahn[]
Chanhyeok and Sanggwon were very close friends. They were always hanging out together and both took part with Seongbin in bullying of other students. Despite being close friends, Chanhyeok was willing to sacrifice him for his own survival. Sanggwon doesn't seem to feel this way, though.
Gyuhwan Han[]
Just like two of his friends, he bullies and torments Gyuhwan on a daily basis. He doesn't think highly of him and calls him a loser and even threatens him. He became surprised that Gyuhwan was able to kill one of the monsters with ease. Despite this, he continues to mock him. However, he became weary of Gyuhwan because of the possibility that he might turn his gun at him.

Notes & Trivia[]
- On Episode 56, Seongbin refers to him as "Jaehyeok." It is likely this is a translation error since Seongbin pronounced his name correctly next episode instead of a being a nickname.
- His death is not confirmed until episode 56.
- He is a similar character to Beau from Bastard. They are both arrogant cowards who are third-in-commands bullies.
